Wedding Exit/Send off Ideas & Tips!
I love the exit! It's probably one of my favorite times at a wedding. What is the exit you ask? That's where people used to throw rice at each other until apparently that became illegal or something?! IDK, what the reason but rice does look pretty awesome, so if you want to be kind to the birds, try with confetti instead! Same look. :)
Sometimes people opt to not do this part of the wedding because they are going to be at the same location for the ceremony and the reception ... but there is a way!
If you are having your ceremony/reception at the same venue, perhaps have your guests throw flowers or blow bubbles into the aisle after you are pronounced (right after the kiss, when you walk back down together). This would be such a FANTASTIC photo! Definitely check with your venue to see if this is possible, although there are some places that do not allow it! BOO!
Check out this photo from Luke & Lisa's wedding in Carmel, Indiana at the Mansion at Oak Hill! I'm in love w/ this idea! They gave each guests a cone full of flowers and let them know to toss them as they walk down the aisle. So presh.
Another way you could make this happen, is if you have all your guests go outside after the ceremony and you do a "fake exit." This is where you would come out of the venue, get in the car and go drive around a few mins. Yes... it may seem a little weird to leave the venue and then come back but it's all about the photos! I'm telling you, YOU WILL LOVE these photos!
If you are already planning on doing an exit, make it fun & spunky!
I'm trying to persuade one of my brides to do water guns, but hey if that's not your style, try to think of something that is. Sparklers/Glow sticks are really big this year and make awesome get away photos at night!
Leah & Chris did two send off's! One at the church and one later that evening when the reception was over! The one earlier in the day bubbles were used, the groomsmen had a great time w/ some mega bubble machines. I have to say, I am totally on board for any sort of bubble gun! Do you see the amount of bubbles those things put out?! HOT!
Important tip for a sparkler send off:
Use the big, long sparklers and have two or more (the more the better) people lighting them starting at each end. 4 lighters would be ideal one at each end, this will make the sparklers last longer for the photo.
Leah & Chris were married at the Scottish Rite in Indianapolis and did a night send off with sparklers. So cute!
If you do have sparklers... you can do more fun stuff like this!
Important tip for bubble send off:
If you are doing bubbles, make sure your guests start blowing the bubbles before you come out. Have your bridesmaids arrange two straight lines towards your get away car. That way when you come out you are walking into the bubbles and they are everywhere. I find that if the guests start to blow as soon as you come out, then you hardly get any bubble's in the photo, which completely defeats the purpose.
Important tip for send off without throwing/blowing something:
Let's just say you want a send off but you don't want them to use anything as you come out. No problem! Something that would be cool is if your guests created a tunnel that you walked thru. That would be AWESOME and a great (cough cough cheaper) alternative!
GET AWAY CAR!
Ok, I want to save you some awkwardness. Have a get away car. This doesn't have to be a limo, hummer, or a gigantic bus, just have something. If the only car available is a Honda, then make it the Honda. ;)
Check out Leah & Chris' get away vehicle.... a pedi cab! LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!
Who even needs them to throw anything... this driver is literally a standing photo op. LOVE!
Joe & Marsha, married at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana a few years back, OMG, that's almost been 2 years? WOWZA, time flies! Anywho, one of the cutest ideas EVER, look how they went to the reception. LOVE LOVE LOVE. Did I say love? Yup, love. :)
Laura & Chris... had a little help from the grandparents! What a NEAT idea, I love incorporating some family like this. Such a great memory to have and seriously, wouldn't you love this off you & your great-grandpap? Too cute!
Just imagine this. You and your man are walking out of the church, 200 people screaming your name, blowing bubbles, this is exciting! You are smiling from ear to ear... How exciting, all these people shouting your name and screaming WOOOHOOO, You finally get to the end of the walk and BAM, no car. You turn around and are just like..."ohhh hey." AWKKKKKKWAAARD!! Save yourself some awkwardness. ;)
Best tip I can give for an exit/send off:
Doesn't matter what you decide to use or do, just make sure you are overly excited when you walk out. Put your hands up, SCREAM, shout, you are married! WOOOHOOOOO! Love it when my couples act animated, makes the photo so much better! :)
